We were delighted to join students at Sea Haven Academy for a hands-on design workshop, hosted in collaboration with Lewes District and Eastbourne Borough Councils.
The workshop gave students the opportunity to share their ideas about what they’d like to see in their local play area — and to take an active role in shaping a space for their community.
After an introduction to the design brief, the students quickly got to work discussing, sketching, and refining their ideas. To help bring their designs to life, we brought along samples of play equipment materials, giving the students a real sense of how their ideas could look and feel in practice.
They thought carefully about how the playground could connect to the wider community and its natural surroundings. One feature that particularly stood out was their idea for a Robinia carving of a local seal, fondly known as Steve.
We also spent some time talking about career opportunities in design and construction, which sparked some great conversations about the students’ ambitions and future goals.
Throughout the day, we were impressed by the students’ creativity, inclusivity, and problem-solving skills. Their enthusiasm and imagination made the session both inspiring and enjoyable for everyone involved.
A big thank you to Sea Haven Academy, and to Lewes and Eastbourne Councils, for inviting us to take part in such an engaging and community-focused workshop.
