Loose Fill Safety Surfacing
Play Grade Barks | Hardwood Chips | Play Sand
loose fill materials (play grade bark, hardwood chips and play sand) must be laid to a minimum depth recommended by the standards and require containment, either by means of an excavated pit or above ground retaining edging. Although loose materials are less expensive than stable materials, they will become dispersed with use and require raking back into position. They are also natural materials that will eventually decompose and require replacement. However, the need to do this will depend upon usage of the play area.
A membrane should be laid between the ground and the loose material to arrest decay and promote drainage. Loose fill is an economical alternative to SafaMulch, Wet Pour rubber surfacing, although we do not recommend it for some types of moving play equipment unless SafaMulch / Wet Pour wear pads are being installed.
All Playsafe loose fill safety surfaces are manufactured with children’s well being in mind and comply with BSEN1177.
Play Sand – Play grade
Play Sand (Non Toxic, Non staining and Low abrasive characteristics) is double washed to give the appearance of a tropical style sand, it is ideal for play areas as well as other sporting activities.
The impact parameters are suitable to the equipment manufacturers recommendations and installation where the depth of impact correspond to a critical fall height. Play Sand conforms with BSEN1177. E.g. a Playsand depth of 300mm will provide maximum critical fall height of 3000mm.
Play Bark and Hardwood Chips
There are various options of Playsafe bark and hardwood chips which are totally natural products produced from pine or hardwoods. Sourced and obtained from within the British Isles these are all free from methyl bromide and pest contamination.
