Clanfield Parish Council Opens South Lane Meadows Playground
Playsafe joined members of Clanfield Parish Council and local residents for the official opening of the new South Lane Meadows playground.
Despite the drizzly weather, the event was a warm and celebratory occasion, reflecting the strong sense of community spirit at the heart of Clanfield. Playsafe was delighted to be part of the day, providing refreshments for visitors and answering questions from families and residents who came along to see the new play area.
As a local playground supplier, we were thrilled to be selected to complete this project. The story of South Lane Meadows also holds a special connection for Playsafe — the original playground installation, completed over 25 years ago shortly after the recreation ground first opened, was also delivered by our team.
Our Managing Director, who attended the opening, remembers being involved in the original works and described returning to complete the new playground as a real “full circle” moment for both himself and the company.
The Journey to Creating South Lane Meadows
Over the years, the original play equipment had been well-loved, with repairs and removals taking place as parts reached the end of their lifespan. The playground required a full replacement, alongside improvements to sections of the existing safety surfacing.
The brief from Clanfield Parish Council included:
- Retaining and incorporating existing surfacing into the new design
- Providing toddler and junior swings
- Replacing the existing fencing
- Relocating the gates to improve access from the new car park
- Introducing a new climbing feature
- Replacing the existing adventure trail with exciting new challenges, including monkey bars and a rolling log
Playsafe submitted our proposal for South Lane Meadows in January 2026. Following feedback and design revisions with Clanfield Parish Council, we developed a playground that met the needs of local families and provided exciting play opportunities for a wide range of ages.
The Result
The new playground has been created using FSC® certified Robinia timber, giving the space a natural and timeless appearance. We added pops of colour through yellow and green ropes and by painting selected Robinia posts, complemented by our Sherwood Safamulch™ surfacing mix of Yellow, Forest Green, and Acorn Brown.
From the moment children enter the play area, there is plenty to explore. The free-standing slide is a natural first stop before children venture deeper into the playground.
Younger children can enjoy the seesaw, horse springer, cradle swings, and low-level trim trail elements, offering opportunities to develop balance, confidence, and coordination.
For older children, the far side of the playground provides more challenging physical play opportunities, with linked trim trail elements, a 3m rolling log, and monkey bars encouraging climbing, balancing, and strength-building skills.
At the centre of the playground sits our net tower, which has quickly become a favourite feature. Children can climb the notched poles, explore the suspended nets, and challenge themselves as they navigate between platforms.
Playsafe would like to thank everyone at Clanfield Parish Council, for working with us throughout the project to create a playground that the community can enjoy for many years to come.
